About Triple Win

Fair labour migration for nurses

There is a shortage of nursing professionals throughout Germany – and the demand for nurses is increasing as people are living longer lives. At the same time, well-trained nurses are frequently unable to find suitable work in their home countries.

In response to this issue, the Triple Win programme was launched in 2013 as a joint project by the International and Specialized Services (ZAV) of the Federal Employment Agency of Germany and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) with the goal of bringing nursing staff from countries with surplus labor to work at hospitals and elderly care institutions in Germany.

Triple Win sets new standards

The programme is now regarded as a pioneer for the fair and safe migration of labor and has been a shining light for how fair migration can be successfully implemented for more than 10 years.

Nurses from abroad are recruited for jobs in Germany on the basis of an agreement concluded between the Federal Employment Agency of Germany and their home country – the employment agencies in the partner countries are also involved in the selection processes. These partnerships will help the programme continue to develop in the future.

All set with Triple Win

Fair recruitment also means that migrating to Germany is a well-prepared step forward in someone’s life – not a risky undertaking.

That’s why we care so much about providing support at every stage. We have offices in all our partner countries, we select the participants personally and discuss all of their questions before any decisions are made. We help prepare them professionally and linguistically for their new job and ensure that they have realistic expectations. Once they arrive in Germany, we help programme participants with administrative formalities, opening a bank account, registering for health insurance and getting their qualifications recognized.

Triple Win – a win-win scenario for everyone

1. Foreign nurses work according to fair conditions in Germany – with a German employment contract, a German salary and according to German employment law – and are given attractive future prospects.

2. The home countries benefit from lower unemployment levels, new vocational training and development opportunities for students in their own country, from potential remittances sent to family members back home, and from the knowledge and experience acquired by the nurses if they choose to return home.

3. Hospitals and elderly care institutions in Germany are able to fill vacancies with well-trained professionals.
