In Kerala, a government-to-government partnership has been in place with Norka Roots since 2021. In Germany, the International and Specialized Services (ZAV) are responsible for your admission to the Triple Win programme and your placement with employers. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports Norka Roots with its own offices and a local team. The GIZ assists with your professional and linguistic preparation and helps you integrate in Germany.

In Kerala we offer 3 different paths – depending on your level of education and your current situation:

Qualified registered nurses

Two application and selection rounds are held each year for nurses who have completed their vocational training. Norka Roots announces the dates in a call for applicants on its website.

If you would like to work in nursing but haven’t yet completed any vocational training, you can apply for this path. You will then embark on a three-year vocational training course to become a registered nurse in Germany. You can complete your vocational training at a hospital or in an elderly care institution. The application rounds take place once a year in autumn and are announced on the Norka Roots website.

Frequently asked questions – FAQs for trained nursing staff

  • Once you are accepted onto the Triple Win programme, you will attend German language classes in your home country until you pass the B1 exam. The B1 certificate is a compulsory requirement for being able to enter Germany as part of the Triple Win programme. The German classes take place online or in-person in your local area, and the costs are covered by us.
  • If you pass the B1 examination on your first attempt, you are eligible for a cash bonus. After arriving in Germany, you will continue to learn German until you obtain a B2 certificate. You won’t be charged any additional costs for these language classes either.
  • We will arrange job interviews with employers in Germany for you. As a result, there’s no need to worry about this step or apply for jobs yourself.
  • A hospital or an elderly care institution? Bavaria or northern Germany? Midwifery or radiology? We will check whether there are any vacancies that match your preferences and skills/knowledge, and organize an online job interview.
  • If your interview is a success, you will receive a job offer and an employment contract in accordance with German employment law – with the same conditions that apply to German workers.

Elderly care institutions are institutions that specialize in caring for older people or people that have special care requirements. Elderly care institution residents may include people suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's disease or people with reduced mobility, after an accident or due to aging, for instance.

In India, “elderly care institutions” are often understood to mean institutions that care for older people who don’t have any family members to look after them. In Germany, on the other hand, elderly care institutions tend to specialize in providing healthcare and nursing care to older people, regardless of whether they have family members to help them or not.

  • Nursing is a regulated profession in Germany. This means the qualification you gained as a registered nurse in your home country needs to be officially recognized in Germany. There is a process in place for the recognition of foreign qualifications in Germany, which you will need to go through.
  • We prepare you for working in Germany both linguistically and professionally in your home country. You start the process for getting your qualifications recognized in your first year after arriving in Germany, which you will ideally complete within 12 months or 36 months at the most. Your employer and our team in Germany are there to guide you through the recognition process.
  • If you complete the three-year training as a nursing specialist directly in Germany, you do not need the professional recognition procedure.
