From Bosnia to Germany with Triple Win: Leijla’s success story in intensive care

For Lejla and Amila, nursing and caring for people runs in the family: their mother is a midwife and both daughters are nurses. Jobs that offer good prospects are scarce in Bosnia-Herzegovina, however. The siblings took the step to work abroad, “with courage, determination and a little luck”, as they say – and with the help of Triple Win. After two years of further training as a specialist nurse, Leijla now works in anaesthesia at Heidelberg University Hospital.

I’d recommend the Triple Win project to anyone who wants to find an employer in Germany quickly, efficiently and, above all else, safely. I work at Heidelberg University Hospital; I am very satisfied with the hospital and all the support and dedication provided by the Triple Win project.

I arrived in Germany in November 2019 and passed the B2 examination in March 2020.

I’d like to start by telling future candidates that it can be difficult to get used to a foreign country, a foreign language, and a working environment far away from friends and family. The integration process takes much longer than just a year. Candidates shouldn’t expect too much; the important thing is to make an effort to progress in a profession that we all enjoy. We need to learn and develop in every way, especially from a professional perspective.

In my case, receiving the German certificate recognizing my foreign qualifications wasn’t the end of the journey, it was just the beginning... Within a year I had completed the recognition process, found my own apartment, become independent and got a promotion at work.

I’d give the Triple Win project ten out of ten for everything they do and their huge commitment. I previously tried to find a job in Germany on my own but I gave up when I realized that it was an expensive process which would have taken much longer. The Triple Win project doesn’t set any conditions in terms of language or work experience, as we all start from scratch in Germany due to the differences in their nursing and care system.
